This is a 100 mile Bicycle Ride that we will be providing Motorcycle support for.  We will assist with parade duty and with route patrol to assist any fallen bicyclist that needs aide.  The route begins at Milton High School in Alpharetta and routes North up and over Burnt Mountain and then returns.

The ride benefits the Georgia Cancer Foundation

www.gacancerfoundation.org

Gary, Tron, Weeba, Mr Smith, Last Guy and Myself have committed so far.  Let me know if you care to participate or want more details.  This should be a fun day of riding lower North Georgia and helping to support a great cause.

Any brave (or foolish) Rollers willing to pedal?  Sharon and I might sign up for it.  Sounds like a good cause and a healthy outing.

Here is the registration link:

Pedal with a Purpose Registration

They have different ride options (6, 32, 62 and 100 mile).

Isn't a pedal just a fancy name for a kickstart?

I get my boxer shorts at K-Mart in Cincinnati.

My bike's AWFUL heavy to try and pedal it.  Plus, I'd have to figure out how to mount pedals and a chain on it....naw....I think I'll skip that.

The route has been finalized:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/ga/alpharetta/855127484045938100

So far this is the list of patrol riders for PWP:
Gary
Last Guy
Weeba
Tron
Gumby

We really could use a couple more if any one is up for it.

The plan will be to break the patrol into "loops" and patrol each loop while the majority of riders are there.  Motorcycles are faster than bikes but on the down hill runs they could be up to 40 or even 50 mph.

To all of you interested in this and those of you supporting it:

These are the bicycle routes:

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ga/alpharetta/855127484045938100

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ga/milton/185127489200451277

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ga/milton/306127489253638541

If you plan to suport the event we need to get to discuss the best way to do it.  As you can see there are lots of turns, several loops and plenty of miles to cover.

The groups will be spread out along the route too, because of a staggered release schedule and the three different loops.

So let's start the discussion with some suggestions on the best way to cover the routes.

Anyone feel free to provide input - the more ideas the better.

More ino from Tracy Madigan - Pedal With a Purpose Director

"We have police escorts for the 6 mile ride.

We’ll need you all for the 30, the 62 and the 100.

The 100 begins at 7 AM.  Assuming we stay on schedule, the other rides will go like this:  62 at 7:15, 30 at 7:30…it will take between 5 & 7.5 hours for someone to complete the 100 and we plan on “pulling riders from the course” at 2:30-3 PM."

I'm looking forward to this event.  I think after the ride we shoudl check out that Irish Pub and partake in a couple $1 pints.  I checked out the menu and it looks pretty good too!!

Of course we will have plenty of sober up time before we hop back on the bikes.

They have done a nice job promoting this event and it is for a great cause.  So what we need to do is get together prior to the run so we can program in the course turns and all.  Maybe I might stuff some rags in my tailpipes to quiten the Vista down some for the riders....... nah... Wink.   But I will keep the revs down for them though.

If you are looking for a good event to participate in let Gumby know.  Weeba and I will be there.

Yaay - That's six of us - any others.   Jeremy, take a look at the routes and think about the delayed start times.  We need a good support strategy.

I'm thinking teams of two bikes.  Stagger our head out times and then run figure 8's to keep the course from getting boring.

Why don't you do one lap on the rear wheel and the next on the front wheel? At least you wouldn't be bored!!  Grin
